I'm already on the roster but it is fun looking back to see all my friends, fellow slaves (A2C-A1C) and slave masters (SSgt and above). Those were good days with $150/month wages, castle storming on time off, University of Maryland/USAFI/ECI courses, a 1952 VW that needed to be double-clutched, hot water only in the kitchen, one small transitor radio for entertainment, eleven cent a gallon QM gasoline with Esso coupon backup, quarterly Tac Evals & ORIs, 3 day shifts followed by 3 night shifts followed by one duty crew day then 2 days off, the Cuban Missile crisis, the Kennedy assination crisis, the two years spent with one strip because promotions were so tight, black & white pictures because color film was too expensive, closeness with other families because none of us had any money, and much more. Gee I miss SSgt Bud Delong, SSgt Robt Kohler, Capt John N. Oliver, A2C John Fehn, A2C Richard Rake, Capt Jack Lee, SSgt Richard Redding who spent many months with me in the LCC. It was Capt Oliver who pushed me the most to get into the AECP Program, which I was accepted to in August 1965. I remember MSgts Duffy and Melton who ran our 'duty crew' and had us scrounge paint for a building or bridge when only scraps were left in various cans - an impossible task that was usually productive. I lived off base in Kappel and Kaustelaun with families Keim and Kasner - I thank them for good places to live.
