oct 1958 to jan 61 formosa spent about a yr on the island of ma kung about 60 miles off the coast of tianan. qumoy and matsu were about 80 miles to the northeast. most of the guys with wives and kids stayed at home on the mainland. us single guys volunteered for the remote duty on the island.
