Joined the program in 62 at Lowry. In Aug 62, we went on to Orlando for crew tng in the 'A' Bird. Overage of 'A' launch officers' so we were cross trained into the 'B' at Orlando. En-route to Kadena in May of 63, my crew and Bill Matthews (deceased) crew launched 2 'B' birds on the System Operational Test & Eval Program at Pad 51 on Cape Canaveral. Went to the 873rd TMS at Kadena and was a MCCC at Sites 1 and 2. Moved to the 498th as the SMLE Commander for 6 months or so and then moved to the Wing Commander's Office as the Deputy Project Manager for Project Sunset Lily---the project to launch 2 'B' birds from Site #1 at the old Japanese Airfield. Went all the way up to press releases with DOD approval when the US Ambassador to Japan, Edwin O. Reischauer, tipped off the Japanese Government on purpose and Sunset Lily was cancelled. Returned to the Civil Engineering career field in late 66 and retired from the USAF in 1990 as a Colonel. Spent the last 13 years building, repairing and maintaining airfields; first as the Director of Engineering, Construction and Maintenance at Orlando Intl Airport (5 years)and then as a Vice President with Parsons Aviation in Bosnia, Korea and Abu Dhabi.
