Lowery (first class to be given A2C on graduation), 4504th (Training Element 868-2-2), then Taiwan (868 TMS, Launch Crew E). President Eisenhower visited our training launch at Cape Canaveral. If he had been a day or two later, he would have seen the live launch. If anyone is interested, I have a copy of the Tainan base newspaper that highlighted the 868TMS in pictures. I also have a 35mm slide of the squadron sign at Christmas showing a Matador pulling Santa's sleigh. Returned to the states in Sept 1961 and was cross-trained in Atlas F checkout equipment and assigned to the 556 SMS at Plattsburgh, NY. Retired in October 1978 as a MSgt at Bergstrom AFB, in Austin, Texas where I still live.
