To Hadley Ward- I was CC of crew 5, Site 1 and we were in the hole that night. Soon after the Pueblo affair came in on the teletype, the red phone rang with a order to destroy the warheads. As we got the shape charges out, we wondered if the whole world had gone nuts. The red phone soon rang again and a different voice said disregard the previous message and it is only, repeat only an exercise! I figure someone got their rear chewed over that mistake. (I purposely am leaving out the codes for the real thing and the exercise.)
