Had almost put my military experience behind me until I retired from my 'civie' occupation and found this website. So many memories of so many people. Have only been able to contact 3 of them. Will keep trying. I was an AFSC 43 on the TM76A Mace. We were told that the 12 of us were the second class to go through the training at Lowery. When we arrived at Orlando, they werent ready for us. We pulled squadron duty for awhile, then our OIC ask for a few volenteers to go down to the Cape to pull KP and maintain the barracks for the Matidor boys when they fired their missile. Flash Lanigan,Roy Woods, Estes Me and a couple more jumped at the chance. 7 days on duty with 3 cooks, 2 or 3 weeks of duty with one cook and all the girls from the local area we could gather up. The air force said they would send for us when they were ready to start our class---they forgot. They apoligised when they realized they couldn't court martial us for following orders. We missed one promotion cycle and arrived in germany about 6 months after we should have been there. Do any of you Matidor boys remember the gritty eggs. The cooks all got drunk one night and didn't show up the next morning, so it was up to the KPs to cook. My boss told me to clean the grill everytime I cooked, so I did as he said. Every time I cooked a batch of eggs, I gave the grill a good going over with a grill stone. I had never seen one before and didn't know that it was shedding a little stone. Talk about a mad bunch of troups. The cooks didn't show up until later that afternoon. I did such a good job with lunch (Roast beef, potatoes and onions, all the trimmings.) My NCOIC said that I would get a letter of comendation for it--I never did, but then they didn't court martial me for getting lost either, so I guess were even.

Hello,It is great to go on this Nostalga trip,I was contacted by Jim Goudeau of whom I was stationed with in Orlando,Fl. in 1959 and 60 of which we were attending the matador launch crew training after completion of the basic missile course at Lowry AFB in Denver, Co. I spent some time reviewing the pictures and editorials from this Web Page and enjoyed it very much,I only recognized two people,Roy Burkhart from the 868th TMS in Tainan and also Airman Sherry, also fron Tainan who unfortunately was killed in a plane crash while returning from a Hong Kong R&R. Enough about me, I would love to hear from anybody who may have been assigned with me in those missileer days. The ones come to mind are Tommy Laird,Roy Burkhart,David Dunbar,Henry Tracey (Hank)Gibby(Nick Name)can't remember his real name,Capt. Reese D Walker,Sgt Fritz, and of course Jim Goudeau. Thanks to Joe Perkins, I would love to attend the Re-union in Orlando in Oct and plan on doing so. hopefully I will have an opportunity to meet and re-meet my fellow Military companions

Started in Mast in 65, cross trained to E&A and had a great time. Got out in 69. Saw site 7 and 8 in the 80s, a real shame. Used to give the lifers a hard time as a young troop, however, I joined the Guard in 77 and have been flying in KC-135s ever since as a boom operator. I'm turning 56 this July and am going on a 4 year active duty tour with 15th AF as a Stan/Eval boom operator, the ultimate lifer with 35 plus years. It's great to see some old friends listed. I sure miss the old operation. Hi to everyone. Anyone from Bitburg, please write.
