Hello fellow Missileers Just wanted to remind everyone to be thinking about the 2005 reunion In Nashville, TN., next June, 1st thru the 4th. We the staff are working hard to make the reunion even better than Denver was, although this will be a tall order, as we all know what a great time that was. If you have not recently received a newsletter, it may be due to your dues not being current. Let me know and I will check your status. Max R. Butler membership Director/Treasurer
I just wanted to update my email address. I worked on the Guidance Sites (OL8 and OL18) then when they were closed down went to Bitburg and Missile maintanence (see picture). Would like to contact anyone that was at the site or at Bitburg from 1959 to 1961.
Joined the program in 62 at Lowry. In Aug 62, we went on to Orlando for crew tng in the 'A' Bird. Overage of 'A' launch officers' so we were cross trained into the 'B' at Orlando. En-route to Kadena in May of 63, my crew and Bill Matthews (deceased) crew launched 2 'B' birds on the System Operational Test & Eval Program at Pad 51 on Cape Canaveral. Went to the 873rd TMS at Kadena and was a MCCC at Sites 1 and 2. Moved to the 498th as the SMLE Commander for 6 months or so and then moved to the Wing Commander's Office as the Deputy Project Manager for Project Sunset Lily---the project to launch 2 'B' birds from Site #1 at the old Japanese Airfield. Went all the way up to press releases with DOD approval when the US Ambassador to Japan, Edwin O. Reischauer, tipped off the Japanese Government on purpose and Sunset Lily was cancelled. Returned to the Civil Engineering career field in late 66 and retired from the USAF in 1990 as a Colonel. Spent the last 13 years building, repairing and maintaining airfields; first as the Director of Engineering, Construction and Maintenance at Orlando Intl Airport (5 years)and then as a Vice President with Parsons Aviation in Bosnia, Korea and Abu Dhabi. Retired for real on 5 May 03. Bruce W. Johnson, Colonel, USAF-Ret. PS: The USAF time was the best!
Joined the 6555th at Patrick in late 1953 as a newly minted 2nd Lt. Transferred to the 1st PBS as a Guidance System Officer just before the 1st left for Germany. We were in Bitburg for a short time then our detachment (I think it was Detachment 1) moved to a town called Dredorf, a very small town in central Germany. After several months in Dredorf our detachment was moved to Bremerhaven where the unit was stationed until I was discharged in November 1955. Had a great time in Germany and would like to contact anyone who was in the 1st
Assigned to 1st Pilotless Bomber Squadron at Bitburg in 1954. Changed shortly to 1st Tactical Missile Squadron. Have lost touch with everyone I served with at Bitburg but would like to hear from anyone who was there at that time. God that was fifty years ago! Bitburg was a fab place.
38th Security Police. Worked mostly Missile sites.Would like to get in touch with anyone who was there at that time.
I just wanted everyone to know my new e-mail and to say I did find another of my teamates from Korea. or he found me. his name is Manny Clothakis he was one of our Special weopons guys. I live in Indiana now and get to wright pat now and again I always get to stand and look at the old Matador and Mace missiles they have in front of the entrance. They have the new hanger done and are working on the cold war area's now.there is one thing i would like to see and that is tac missiles represented in the garden outside the air force museum. there are plaques from a lot of units but no Tach missile ones.
In my previous comments I should have indicated the time period I was interested in was 1959-1963 at Sembach.
Just an up date on some new memorbilia associated with the TacMissileers. We now have the TacMissileer license plates, one with the missile insignia on each side of the TacMissileer logo. The other plate has the Senior missile insignia on each side of the logo. Also taking orders for jackets with the TacMissileer '10' logo on the back with your choice of your old unit lettering above and below the logo. Also have old unit patches, 586th Tactical Missile Group, 38th Tactical Missile Wing, 498th TMG, 310th TMS, 69th TMS,701st Tactical Missile Wing. Let me know if there is a unit patch you would like to have. Most likely I can get it produced. Prices range from $10.00 to $15.00, depending on how many stitches are in the patch. Max R. I had the distinct pleasure of serving with some of the Air Force's Best while in the guided missile program. Denver 59-60; Orlando AFB 60-62; Hahn 62- 66. Can't remember all the names, but your guest book entries sure bring back some fond memories. I worked at Site V as a mech I for a couple of months then went to the training site for the rest of my tour. I worked as a substitute mechanic and later as substitute crew chief occasionally on all 3 sites.
TheWebsite is really nice. I will check every so often for more information. Keep up the good work.
