No Joe I was not dreaming. My mind was going faster than my fingers. What I ment was that you were in Germany Missile Sdq and I was in Okinawa, before were both assigned too the Materials Directorite. That is where we also had too do the ARMY Weapons work also, and support the NAVY Weapons Training Detachment. I had LT COM Lige Roper swear me in when I re-enlisted in 1972, in the Museum and my family was there under the Re-entry Vehicle.

Jimmie u must be dreaming, if u remember, we both worked for Lew Shields and started the museum, the first balloons were launched from the parking lot of Coronado Mall in l971, had 13 balloons, we started the museum on base in fall of 69, moved the fat man and little boy from parade field which was first units in that place. as u said it is now in old town since 01 when they closed the base as far as the museum was concerned. only a few items are in the place in old town mostly Nuclear related items as it is run by Sandia Corps. good to see u remember some Jim take care and hope all people come and see the balloons in Oct usually we have in excess of 800 balloons quite a site. take care and Happy New Year to all.

I see a notice on the webbsight about a reunion in Albquerque. It talks about Old Town trip. Just wanted too pass on I was assigned at Sandia and Kirtland. While there Joe Harper(was in Germany) When I lived there on Base the Balloons were lauched from the State Fair Grounds off of Central Avenue and flew over the base Some went down about a block from house in what was called Zia Park on eastside of , what is now Kirtland AFB East and some other Weapons people declassifed the weapons and missiles on display on Kirtland and part of it is by Old Town. It was called tha Sandia Atomic Museum and now it's the National Atomic Museum. They do charge Admission now down town. Hope you find this interesting. nukejones@aol.com

Launch crew tech #3. Discharged March 3, 1965. Live in Seattle, wife Judy. Loved finding this site !! Great job !! Trained in Denver and Orlando. Assigned 71st TMS Bitburg Germany. LO was Capt Clifford Kunkel, crew chief was Warren Reidmiller, SSGT. I sleep walked thru so many 12 hour shifts in the 'Hole', you could give me a head set, and a check list, and I could sleep walk thru another shift anytime ! The worst was always changing the darn nose the previous crew knew was bad, but left for you ! right ??? When we got 'short', I have to admit we left the rookies with a few bad 'Noses' ourselves. We figured they needed the experience ! How about those electric toilets? Where they great or what? It was only used once in my three years, and it smelled so bad, we tried to evacuate the site, but the Air Police at the gate made us return. They and the darn dog had a very small sense of humor !!

First trained at Lowry in '59 on guidance for Matador C bird, to ORL for crew training--missile obselete--back to Lowry in '60 to retrain on Mace B- -back to ORL for crew training in '60, including test R&D shots at the Cape (Camp Happiness)--4 sucesses and 1 partial (it got out of the bay)-- then 498th TMG group movement to Kadena in September '61--lots of cutting and pulling cables and equipment installation to operational. Was Mech 1 at site 2--LO was Capt Ernie Schmid, CC was SSgt Harry Kordes. Rotated back and out in Apr '63. Thanks for this site--I came across a former Mace A guy at an air show at March AB (CA) this month and he put me on your trail. Keep up the good work--and did I catch something about a reunion coming in Tucson?

Gentlemen, I am working on a booklet / book over the Cold War in the Eifel-Region/Germany. Nearby BITBURG were stationed Matador & Mace missiles in the 50-ies & 60-ies.Units: 71st TMS, 385th TMG, 585th TMG and? What I need is: any kind of photos, plans, stories of the Bitburg-Missileers and the B-Pad RITTERSDORF (Matador)later on named the Mace B Site 7. Less information I have is the time from the early 50ies to 1960 (Matador at Bitburg). Nobody knows, where there exactly were stationed in the surrounding of Bitburg (Bedhard). Maybe there is still a map from that time, with markings of the units? Many thanks to you, helping me. Josef P. Hello Everyone, Well, another reunion has come and gone, Denver was great and Nashville I feel was even better. Of course, we the staff learn from our mistakes each time we have a reunion. We will always have mistakes or we wouldn't be human. But I always pray that they will be small mistakes. We did learn from the Nashville reunion some little things that we need to change to make everything run smoother. But all in all from reading everyone's comments, I guess we didn't do to badly. I, as well as all the staff, I'm sure, appreciate the positive comments. Of course, the big reason we do this, is because it pays so well. JUST KIDDING!! I truly enjoy my position as Membership Director/Treasurer. At reunion times, it gets a little hectic, but it is all worth it when we all come together at the reunion. I now have the 3' Missileer patch in stock. Some of you were asking about them at the reunion and we had run out of them. Also have various unit patches as well as the Missileer jackets that can be ordered. The members that had ordered jackets at the reunion now have them and from the comments I have received, are really pleased. Hope and pray everyone stays in good health so we all can come together again in 2007. Max
